Why most AI camera alerts get ignored (and what we do differently)

Executive Summary

Security teams stop trusting alert systems the same way people stop trusting a car alarm. Here's the actual cause of alert fatigue, and why human verification fixes it instead of more AI.

If you've worked security or operations anywhere with camera-based alerting, you already know this pattern: the system was taken seriously for about two weeks, and then everyone started ignoring it.

The car alarm problem

Car alarms trained an entire generation of city dwellers to ignore a loud siren, because false positives vastly outnumbered real theft attempts. AI camera alerts have the same failure mode if false-positive rates aren't controlled: a gust of wind, a shadow, a reflection, a bird, all can trigger a naive motion-based or poorly-tuned detection model. After the tenth false alarm in a day, people stop checking the eleventh.

More AI isn't the fix, verification is

The instinct is often to make the AI model "smarter" to reduce false positives further. That helps, but it doesn't solve the underlying trust problem, because no model is at zero false positives, and the cost of a missed real event is high enough that you can't just tune threshold until false positives disappear, you'll also filter out real detections.

What human verification actually changes

Every alert Zaylix generates gets a verification step before it reaches you. That doesn't mean a person watches live video all day, it means the system's own detection gets checked before it's escalated as something you need to act on. The practical effect: when an alert reaches you, it's worth looking at. That's what rebuilds trust in the system, not a marginally better model, a credible claim that what reaches you is real.

This is also why we're honest about accuracy

We don't publish a single blanket accuracy number, because it varies by detection type, camera placement, and site conditions, the same variables that determine feasibility in the first place. What we can commit to is the verification step itself: the alert you get has already been checked once before it reaches you.
